Arkham Horror Lovecraft Letter and Cult Cabernet Sauvignon

We’re Michael and Suzy, your hosts dishing out honest board game reviews for couples, blending wine (or in this case, beer) tastings with gameplay breakdowns. Got feedback? We’re heading to the Midwest Gaming Classic next week outside Tabletop Village. Come say hi!

Today we’re tasting the Cult Cabernet Sauvignon 2020 from Cult Vines in Lodi, California. It’s a medium-bodied, easy-drinking Cab with notes of black cherry, raspberry, chocolate, oak, tobacco, and light spice. Smooth and silky with powdery tannins—fruity, lightly spicy, and great for casual sipping. Vivino rating ~3.8–3.9. Pairs beautifully with grilled steak, burgers, lamb, tomato-based pastas, mushroom risotto, eggplant Parmesan, or bold cheeses.

The game we’re playing is Arkham Horror: Lovecraft Letter (2025). It’s a super quick push-your-luck deduction card game that re-themes the classic Love Letter system with the madness and monsters of the Arkham Horror universe. Draw, discard, and try to survive Cthulhu-flavored chaos—multiple winners possible. Very light, plays 2–6, BGG ~7.5.

We review Batman: Love Letter at episode 29, you can find that HERE!

There’s a special show in store for this week! We interview Dan Loosen, co-founder of the Midwest Gaming Classic that has been running for 20 years. Highlighting the passion and love that gamers possess for their favorites, whether it be tabletop, video, pinball or any of the categories within. We discuss the origins of MGC, starting as Jagfest 2K1 a celebration of the Atari Jaguar, and highlights of guests, events, wrestling belts and the friends he’s made over the years, and the arrival of a big purple monkey.

If you haven’t heard of the Midwest Gaming Classic, here’s a clip from their site on what they do “

“The Midwest Gaming Classic is a trade show featuring 200,000+ square feet of retro and modern home video game consoles, pinball machines, arcade video games, tabletop RPGs, computers, tabletop board games, crane games, collectible card games, air hockey, and that’s just the start! The Midwest Gaming Classic is about celebrating gaming, trying new things, learning about the gaming hobby, meeting others who share the love of gaming, and having fun doing it!

No matter if you have one console and a handful of games or thousands of games in every room of your house, you’ll find something to celebrate with us!”
